Abstract

The study aimed to identify the reality of research ethics considering the growing use of artificial intelligence technologies and to uncover the most prominent ethical issues and challenges associated with it from the perspective of faculty members at some Somali universities in Mogadishu, considering the rapid digital transformations witnessed by the academic environment. The study adopted the descriptive analytical method, and a questionnaire was distributed to a sample of (69) faculty members, The results showed the presence of a generally positive perception among faculty members, with a mean of 3.53 and a relative weight of 71%. They also indicated that the use of artificial intelligence in scientific research affects the researcher’s academic independence, with a mean of 4.32 and a relative weight of 86%. The findings revealed a state of ambiguity and incompleteness in students’ awareness, with a mean of 3.33 and a relative weight ranging from 60–88%. They further showed that some students misuse artificial intelligence in preparing their research, with a mean of 4.43 and a relative weight of 89%. The results also revealed noticeable shortcomings in regulations and accountability mechanisms, along with the absence of training and awareness, with a mean of 3.69 and a relative weight of 74%. The study recommended the necessity of developing clear policies at the university level, forming specialized committees, and introducing academic courses concerned with the ethics of artificial intelligence to promote sound research practices and ensure the improvement of the quality of scientific research in Somali universities.
