The Availability of self- learning Skills of Taibah University Students in light of the Requirements of the Professional Learning Community with regard to the Perspective of Faculty Members

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the most prominent self- learning skills of Taibah University students from the perspective of the faculty members concerning shifting towards a professional learning community (PLC). A total of 150 faculty members responded electronically to the list of self- learning skills necessary for university students. The results of the study revealed that there was an agreement among the faculty members regarding nine self- learning skills (somehow existing) and one skill (existing). The results of the Independent Sample T- Test showed statistically significant differences in seven self- learning skills according to gender in favor of female faculty members. Moreover, the results showed statistically significant differences according to specialization in five self- learning skills in favor of the scientific colleges, and one self- learning skill in favor of the theoretical colleges. The study recommended the need to create a supportive learning environment in order to facilitate building a PLC. Moreover, the importance of developing self- learning skills of university students to raise the level of competencies and skills to meet the demands of the labor market.
