The Effectiveness of Strategy (PQ4R) in the Teaching of Social and National Studies on Cognitive Achievement and the Development of Constructional Thinking among Third Grade Students in Riyadh

Abstract

The aim of the research was to identify the effectiveness of the use of PQ4R in teaching social and national studies on cognitive achievement and to develop some of the thinking skills of the third grade students. To achieve the research objectives, the researcher used the semi-empirical experimental method. The research sample consisted of (64) students who were chosen deliberately from the intermediate school (116) of the Riyadh Education Department. Using SPSS statistical methods, the research results in the following results:
1. There were statistically significant differences at the level of (0.01) among the average scores of the students of the experimental group studied using the PQ4R strategy and obtained a general average (30.94) compared to the average of (21.22) obtained by the female students studied using the usual method of application Post-test cognitive achievement at each of its six cognitive levels: remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, assembling the calendar, and testing as a whole.
(PQ4R) and obtained a general mean (53.50), compared with an average of (39.41) obtained by the control students studied in the usual manner in the application Post-test of constructional thinking at each of the four skills: fluency, expansion, representation, prediction, and testing as a whole.
3. The effectiveness of the PQ4R strategy in increasing the cognitive achievement of female students in the experimental group. And obtained a general average (30.94) compared to the average (21.22) obtained by the officer.
4- The effectiveness of the strategy (PQ4R) in the development of the stereotypical thinking of the female students of the experimental group. (53.50) compared with the average (39.41) obtained by the officer.
Based on the results of the research, the researcher presented a number of recommendations to activate the teaching using the strategy (PQ4R). A number of appropriate studies have been proposed in this area.
