Depression in mothers of children with autism in the light of some variables

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the degree of depression among mothers of autistic children in the light of some variables (age of the mother, the level of education of the mother) in some schools and centers of Riyadh and Jeddah for people with special needs.
The researcher followed the descriptive approach. The study sample consisted of mothers of autistic children enrolled in schools and centers for people with special needs. The final number (58) was randomly selected from the current study community. The researcher used the Peck Mini Scale for Depression and a preliminary information form. After the field study and data collection were statistically processed by the Spss computer, the researcher used the T test for the average of one community, the analysis of the mono-variance.
The study reached the following results:
1. The degree of depression among mothers of autistic children is above average.
2 - There are no statistically significant differences in the degree of depression in the mothers of children of autism due to the variable age of the mother.
3 - There are no statistically significant differences in the degree of depression among mothers of autistic children due to the variable educational level of the mother.
