Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the extent to which creative thinking skills are included in the literary texts of the My Eternal Language curriculum prescribed for intermediate school students in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The targeted skills are fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. To achieve this objective, the researcher adopted the descriptive analytical method, using content analysis as the main research tool due to its suitability for the nature of the study. The study population consisted of the My Eternal Language curriculum for the intermediate stage. A checklist of 33 creative thinking skills appropriate for intermediate students was designed, validated, and transferred into a content analysis card applied to the literary texts after ensuring its validity and reliability. The research sample represented the entire study population, comprising 259 activities: 125 in the first semester and 134 in the second semester. Data were analyzed using statistical methods such as frequencies, percentages, and the Holsti formula to calculate reliability. The findings revealed a weak inclusion of creative thinking skills in the literary text activities. Specifically, fluency appeared with a rate of 66%, originality with 15%, flexibility with 13%, and elaboration with only 6%. In light of these results, the study recommends increasing the integration of creative thinking skills in the My Eternal Language curriculum, with particular emphasis on elaboration. The study also suggests conducting further research on the obstacles to developing creative thinking skills and on strategies to promote them.
